  • Awesome victory of Filipe Albuquerque at Silverstone

Filipe Albuquerque was at his best level at Silverstone in the first race of the European Le Mans Series, achieving an impressive victory in the last stint, epic as the Coimbra driver only knows how to do. He came on track in third place, with some disadvantage to the first place, and not even the most believers believed that such recovery was possible. But Filipe made it like nobody else and now enjoys a brilliant first place in the first race of the year, taking the lead of the championship along with his teammates Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer at United Autosports.

In the end the happiness was notorious, although the Portuguese driver thought he could not win in the first confrontation: "Despite the excellent performance of the Ligier, we had some setbacks that delayed us with a penalty and a not so good pit stop. Made us lost 40 seconds. When I took the last stints I was 30 seconds behind the leader I knew it was going to be a difficult recovery but I saved the tires early and that allowed me to push the limits in the final phase and be able to take the first place in the final minutes of the race. It was the best we could have hoped for", said Albuquerque.

The Portuguese driver has so the best start of the season, especially since he's looking forward to get the ELMS title after being runner-up: "It's the best way to start, but we still have a lot of work to do. It is important to maintain performance and work the Ligier in the best possible way. My teammates are very motivated and the team is focused on getting the best possible results. We have everything reunited to get a successful season", concluded Albuquerque satisfied with his job.

The pace of the JS P217 Ligier has always been very good and it gives us a good feeling for tomorrow's race: "It was a good qualification. A red flag situation forced me to give up of a quickest lap. But I'm glad with the final result, it was very good. Maybe I couldn't do better. But I'm satisfied, because we are in the right place, in the first line of the grid", Started by referring.

For a 4 hours race the start position is not the most important thing: "It is important to be consistent in the laps." We are fast and if we run in a good pace during the race without big swings, I belive we can achive the podium. As much Will as Hugo are every time more confident with the car and that gives determination for the whole team" conclued Filipe Albuquerque.

Tomorrow the race can be watched on Motorstv from 15.10h or through the ELMS website at http://www.europeanlemansseries.com/en/

In a year when all the cars are racing for the frist time, Filipe is aware that Cadillac has a lot of potential: "The performance is there, now we just need to ensure the reliability. That we can only avaliate at the end of the race. We all know that the winner will be the one with lesser problems. The first step was taken, we now need to achive the others. But we will work and fight for victory. It's what we whant", concluded the Portuguese driver, who will race for the fifth time in the 24 hours of Daytona.
  • 24h of Daytona the first challenge of the year for Filipe Albuquerque

This weekend will be another edition of the 24h Daytona. A race that Filipe Albuquerque has never missed since his first time and where he came victorious in 2013. This year, like last year he will team up with Portuguese João Barbosa and Brazilian Christian Fittipaldi at the wheel of the new Cadillac DPi-VR Action Express Racing with the aim of taking the highest place of the podium. This successful team have already won twice this race and also in the IMSA Sportscar Championship which has Daytona as the first race of the season. He's confident that reaching the top of the podium is a goal within reach after all the work that have been doing in the new machine.

"I'm in a winning team and as such the goal is to win. We have to take in consideration the new championship regulation demanding new cars. That means we and the other teams do not have a real perception of reliability levels, important for this kind of races. About our opponents and after the test sessions, I think we are well, on the front line and we are obviously one of the favorite teams. I'm happy with the work we have done so far, knowing that nobody showed the whole game and being aware that only near the beginning of the race we will realize where we stand. But more important than all this is to believe in our work and "take it on a good harbor", that is the same to say: To victory, "concluded Filipe Albuquerque focused to start 2017 the best possible way.

We lost a loot of time. In that moment the podium was a mirage for us but after that we start recover thanks to an excellent performance of the team. In the last part of the race I was under a lot of pressure, but I made my stints without making mistakes and we managed to achieve the third place on the podium that made us very happy, "explained Albuquerque.

Although they finished in front of the championship leaders, it was not enough to keep the team in the fight for the title until Bahrain: "It was a shame but the points advantage of our opponents was big. Aware that the Ligier RGR Sport would be very competitive in the race, Albuquerque, Bruno Senna and Ricardo Gonzalez always made their stints on attack: "It was a crazy race. Our car was very competitive and gave us the opportunity to fight and gain positions. I personally enjoyed myself a lot in my stints. I recovered from sixth to second and I ran in a good pace. I thought that victory would come to us, but unfortunately the Oreca have higher top speed and in similar situations they have advantage. That's what happened. Let's see how it goes the race and especially the stint of Ricardo Gonzalez. We are optimistic. The results and the work fell short of the expectations of all: "It wasn't a happy day for us. But it was better happen in the test than in the race. We had a problem in the car that we only discovered later what it was... made us lose a lot of time in the pit lane. We didn't practice what we wanted neither worked on setup as we had planned. We will have to do this all in race situation. But we know we have a good base and the Ligier is competitive. We'll have to be quick on finding the right setup to not being in disadvantage. In a championship that puts about 60 cars on the track and where the differences are very short. The performance of the machines and the performance of the drivers make the difference. In Albuquerque qualification and his team-mates Sergio Jimenez and Rodrigo Baptista were not beyond the 27th place and even though they had made an excellent recovery in the run up to the 16th position, the result is far from the aspirations of the Portuguese driver.
